Kempsey – Crescent Head Surf Life Saving Club
Surf Club members held their first Presentation Evening in the new Surf Club building on Saturday night. The night was very successful with a wide range of memberships in attendance to recognise the achievements of members through patrol, administration and competition.
Ross Allan, Amy O’Brien and Connor Tamblyn received recognition for achieving 65 hours volunteering as patrol members on the beach throughout 2015-16 . The various Boat Crews had a remarkable competition season from the North Coast Boat Series, the Country Championships, and State and Aussies. The Ladies Crew of Janelle Conomos, Belinda Reid, Taryn de Luca and Rebecca Mitchell received awards on the night, as did Shaun Higgins and Wayne Castro for their competitive achievements in numerous carnivals.
Penny Hughes and Shelley McLean, two long serving Nippers Committee members were praised for their contribution and tireless efforts for our younger members over many years, and were awarded Certificates of Appreciation. Robyn Fuller, the club treasurer, was also recognised for her administrative efforts during a time when members were without a Clubhouse and patrolled from shipping containers, to overseeing the funding requirements of the new build through to completion, ensuring that now the Surf Club is in a sound financial position.
Major Awards on the night were presented to Courtney McLean who received both the Junior Club Person of the Year and the President’s Award from Club President, Scott Edwards. Courtney is a dedicated 16 year old who gives freely of her time to the Surf Club while also juggling school and work commitments. Scott was also a recipient when he was awarded Club Person of the Year for his efforts with the Boat Crews, mentoring of younger members and liaising with many external organisations through the completion of our new building.
Scott Edwards received the ultimate recognition of Life Membership at the end of the evening when Life Member Mick Conomos and committee member Steve Pellen spoke of Scott’s involvement and enthusiastic efforts over many years as a member, trainer, examiner, coach and finally as President. This award was recognised with a standing ovation from all present for a member who has committed many years to Kempsey-Crescent Head SLSC.
