The Kempsey Crescent Head Surf Life Saving Club was well represented at the 2016 Australian Surf Life Saving Titles held on the Sunshine Coast at Alexandra Headland this month. Six boat crews represented the club in the Men’s 240+, the Ladies 160+ and the Men’s 180+, the Open Men’s Reserves, the Open Women’s and the Under 18’s. The MAL’s 160+ and KEC’s 180+, both in the Masters Divisions brought home bronze and silver medals respectively. These are the first Aussie medals in the boat events ever for the club. The MAL’s who took home Gold at the State Titles took on their old (but new) nemesis from Batemans Bay. In really tough racing the MAL’s crossed the line to take the Bronze medal.
The KEC’s who raced strongly all year brought their Country Gold Medal winning form into the Aussies. Finishing well in the heats they took that form into the final. Again in tough racing placing’s were left to the line judges who gave them 2nd by 1.5 inches to the boys from Tallebudgera.
The Clydesdales 240+ raced the best they have all year and were unlucky not to make the finals. The Open Men’s Reserves made the cut after forgetting their sweep and were knocked out in the early elimination round. The Open Women’s, who mostly backed up from the MAL’s raced gallantly into round 7. The junior boys (who by the way now feature on all Aussie Competitors chests) rowed really well to make the Semi Finals.
What a great result for a small club from the Mid North Coast. Congratulations to all of the sweeps and rowers on what was an amazing effort.
